At Home

I have crafts (paper, pens, glue, scissors, paint) available. I like to focus on seasonal themes to encourage a knowledge of the natural world, and also celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Winter Solstice and Bonfire Night that encourage children to build a sense of the diverse world and culture we live in.  I also encourage children to get involved round the house with playdough, den building, dressing up, lots of baking- I love to bake!- exploring the woods, water/sand play, gardening.

Outside the home

I am a firm believer in children spending time outside, and we go for a walk every day, making the most of the woods, reservoir, canal, local amenities and parks that are around us. We also have regular outings, these can be with other home educators to places like Brierley Forest, Sutton Lawns, or a trip to a local town to visit the library.

I believe children learn best through play, so I follow their interests when arranging activities.  There is plenty of time in the day for free play and exploring, and all activities are adapted to suit the age and ability of each child.

I follow the standards set in the Early Years Foundation Stage.  Childminders are a home from home alternative to a nursery, and are monitored and assessed by Ofsted.
